Some motorists in St. John's will have to find a different place to park their vehicle overnight.

The city's on-street overnight parking ban takes effect just after midnight Wednesday, to any streets outside the designated downtown area.

Vehicles cannot be parked on the street between 12:30 and 7:30 a.m., from Jan. 6.

The parking ban will remain in effect, regardless of weather or snow conditions.

Vehicles found on the streets between those hours will be ticketed with a fine of $45.

Any vehicle found found impeding snow removal operations could be towed andimpounded at the owner's expense.

According to the city, an average of 322 centimetres of snow falls in St. John's every year. The ban helps the city remove that snow from the streets.
