RCMP officer arrested, charged with impaired driving after crash on TCH

RCMP officer Travis Plant, 34, has been charged with impaired driving after crashing his vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway on Sunday, the RCMP says.

An off-duty police officer has been charged with impaired driving after crashing his vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highwayover the weekend, the RCMP says.

In a news release, the RCMPsaid officers arrived on the scene of a single-vehicle crash on the highwaynear Glovertown around10:45 a.m. NTon Sunday.

The driver, 34-year-oldoff-duty RCMP officer Travis Plant,took a roadside breath test, which police say hefailed.

"He was arrested for impaired operation and was transported to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were more than one and a half times the legal limit," the news release reads.

Plant's driver's licence was suspended and his vehicle has been seized and impounded.

The RCMP saidPlant's current duty status remains under review andSIRT-NL the province's police watchdog has been notified.

None of the charges have been proven in court.

A man with the same name is due to appear in a Gander courtroom on Jan.14, and is facing two charges related to operating a vehicle while impaired.
