Snowbirds fly through C.B.S.

The Canadian Armed Forces Snowbirds graced the skies over Conception Bay South on Tuesday afternoon.

The public had the chanceto meet the pilots at the fire station in Kelligrews earlier Tuesday.

Capt. Ave Pyne, one of the squadron'spilots, was happy to meet with kids and field their questionsahead of the flight demonstration.

"Absolutely, it's fun. It's one of the best jobs you could have," said Pyne.

Pyne said flying the iconic jet has its ups and downs no pun intended.

"On the bumpy, windy turbulent days, it feels like you're working as hard as possible and going nine rounds with Mike Tyson," he said. "On days where it's nice and smooth, it's an absolute joy. When you're at the top of theloop, when you're light in your seat, it's a lot of fun."

Sister and brother Melissa andAdam Smith each said it was "awesome" to meet the Snowbirds.

"These guys are professionally trained, and we just like meeting professionals, and also it's just fun. It's a nice social experience for us," said Melissa. "Really good!" added younger brother Adam.

Asked if they'd ever want to fly the jets themselves, Melissa said no, while Adam said "probably."

"I probably will have to do this," he said. "If people request it, then I'm going to do it."

Melissa said she'd prefer to stay on terra firma.

"I prefer to stay here, with my own two feet on the ground. I've only been on a plane when I was going on vacation, and that was once," she said.

"And it was really fun," Adam reminded her. "Just kick back, and relax, and enjoy the flight."

Through the afternoon, the Town of Conception Bay South listed a number of activities in the area, before the Snowbirds were expected to take to the skies at 5:15 p.m. for their air show aboveSt. Edward's School field on Long Shore Road.
