Steven Miller homicide: RNC confirm seizure of red Civic, but mum on details

A spokesman with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has confirmed that officers seized a red Honda Civic Tuesday evening, but are not saying whether it is related to the Steven Miller homicide investigation.

The RNC gave a detailed update on the shocking case during a briefinglate Tuesday afternoon, and announced thatofficers were searching for a two-door model of the popular car as part of the investigation.

It now appears this vehicle has been seized by police, withmultiple sources confirming this for CBC News.

"I can confirm that we have a red Civic, but aren't providing anything more than that," RNC media relations officer Const. Geoff Higdon wrote in an email.

Police were going door to door on Bayview Heights Wednesday afternoon.

A 2005 Dodge Caravan that was foundtorched off the Foxtrap Access Road Monday evening is also believe to be linked to the investigation, police say.

Meanwhile, funeral plans for 25-year-oldSteven Lorne Millerhave been announced, as police continue a large-scale investigation into his death, and what might be a related stabbing on the same morning on Trails End Drive in Paradise.

A service will be held Friday morning at a chapel in St. John's.

According to the obituary, Miller is survived by his parents, a brother, grandparents and other relations.

Supt. Jason Sheppard confirmed Tuesday that Miller was violently abducted from a home in Seal Cove, C.B.S.,during the pre-dawn hours on Saturday by three masked men armed with firearms.

Investigators believe the intruders then set the house ablaze.

A young woman was also in the house at the time. Earlier reports that she received minor injuries have been withdrawn by the RNC.

Suspects have been identified, but police are not releasing their identities, and have issued a public plea for information that may help with the investigation.

Miller's body was discovered in the driveway of a home in nearby Bayview Heights, an area of Kelligrews, just after 8 a.m. Saturday.

Police are not releasing the cause of death, but say Miller had sustained multiple stab wounds.

Police said there is no connection between the homicide and the Bayview Heights neighbourhood.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old man who was stabbed on Trails End Drive in Paradise Saturday morning remains in hospital, police confirmed Wednesday.

CBC News has learned that man is Paul Connolly, a known criminal in St. John's.

Officers are investigating the homicide and the stabbing as separate incidents, but are not ruling out the possibility they may be connected.
