A section of the Team Gushue Highway extension in St. John's that was supposed to be paved this year is being put off.

When completed, the seven-kilometre stretchwill run from Kenmount Road to Pitts Memorial Drive.

Last summer, then-transportation minister Nick McGrath laid out the province's timetable for the project.

At thattime he said the construction phase would be completed in 2014 and the paving would be finished in 2015.

However, DavidBrazil, the current transportation minister, now says that's not going to happen.

Right now, the $45-million project remainsa gravel path, and the new goal is to pave about one-third of the highwayfrom Kenmount Road to an area near Captain Whelan Drive by the end of the year.

Bren Quinlan, who lives near the project, is not impressed.

"They'd probably build the Taj Mahal quicker," he said.

"I would really have to see it to believe it. This has been going on so long it's really hard to believe."
