Topsail stabbing victim released from hospital

The boy who was stabbed in the neck at a soccer field in Topsail a couple weeks ago has been released from hospital, and is reportedly in good condition.

Calvin Randell, with the Conception Bay South Soccer Association, said he spoke with the boy's mother, who told him the boy was recovering from the ordeal.

The 11-year-old was stabbed during a skills camp in the evening on Sept. 25.

Dozens of other players and parents were stunned when a young man rushed onto the field and attacked the boy with a knife.

Nicholas Layman, 19, has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon and aggravated assault.

Layman is undergoing a psychiatric assessment, and is due back in provincial court on Oct. 31.
