2 Nunavut Mounties get bravery awards

Two Mounties in Nunavut were given bravery medals for their work in saving a child from drowning in the hamlet of Cambridge Bay.

The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario presented a bronze medal to Const. Greg Redl and Const. David Brown was awarded an Honorary Testimonial.

The awards stem from when the two officers helped to save a boy from drowning in frigid waters in the community in July 2010.

The RCMP says that after getting a call about a child drowning, Redljumped inthe water without hesitation and found the child about 10 feet below the surface. He dove down, grabbed the child,and broughthim to shore.

On shore, Brown began performing CPR on the unconscious and unresponsive child. The child was brought back to life and later medevaced to Edmonton where he made a full recovery.

The awards ceremony was held by the Royal Canadian Humane Association at the Government House in Toronto.
