3-month-long boil water advisory lifted in Whale Cove, Nunavut

Nunavut's Department of Health has lifted a three-month-long boil water advisory for Whale Cove, Nunavut.

In July, health officials called for residents to boil their water for at least a minute before using it, after tests showed high levels of totalcoliform bacteria.

Coliformarea common form of bacteria used to indicate whether a water supply "may be vulnerable to contamination by more harmful microorganisms," according tothis fact sheet from New Brunswick's health department.

Health officials in Nunavut were working withthe department of community and government services to test the water and find out how the bacteria may have entered the system.

So far, there's no word on what caused the increased levels ofbacteria.
