Alaska Highway crash victim ID'd as Heather Barnfield of Whitehorse

The B.C. Coroners Service has released the name of a woman who was killed in a two-vehicle collisionon the Alaska Highway last week.

Heather Marina Barnfield, 52, of Whitehorsedied following the crash outside of Fort St. John, B.C.,on Saturday, March5.

Barnfield was driving a camper-van southbound on the Alaska Highway at about 11 p.m. when her vehicle collided with a northboundtractor-trailer unit. The crash occurred on the Charlie Lake hill, about eight kilometres west of Fort St. John.

Barnfieldwas declareddead at the scene. There were no passengers in her vehicle.Based on an initial report, the driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

The B.C. Coroners Servicesaid there were icy road conditions at the time of the incident. It and the RCMPare continuing to investigate.
