Boil water advisory remains in effect in Dawson City

The problem is resolved, says Dawson City mayor Wayne Potoroka. 'The precautionary boil water advisory is still in effect, however, until it's lifted by the Yukon Environmental Health Officer.'
Wayne Potoroka, mayor of Dawson City, says the boil water advisory remains in effect though the problem at the sewage plant has been fixed.

A boil water orderwas issued yesterday in Dawson City, Yukon,after a sewage main break at the town's wastewater treatment plant causedsewage to back up into the plant.

WaynePotoroka, the mayor of Dawson City, says they found the source of problem around 11 p.m. a faulty valve leading from our old screening facility to the sewer force main.

The problem is resolved, he said. The precautionary boil water advisory is still in effect, however, until it is lifted by the Yukon Environmental Health Officer."

The Department of Health and Social Services has not said whether water has actually become contaminated.

It says it issued the boil water advisory as a precaution.

The order applies to both piped water and trucked water.

Residents are advised to boil water for two minutes before using it.
