Child struck by car in Yellowknife released from hospital

The child was struck by a vehicle in a school parking lot and medevaced to a hospital in Edmonton. Now he's on his way home.

'He is to stay at home for 6 weeks to recover from a trauma we will never forget,' mother says

A child who was struck by a vehicle in a school parking lot in Yellowknife is on his way home from Edmonton, where he was medevaced after the incident.

The accidenthappened on Thursday at Mildred Hall elementary schoolat about 3:30 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle told CBCshe didn't see the child when she reversed her SUV and struck the boy, who was sitting on acurb.

"The car accident caused my son to suffer an injury to his liver that needed to be monitored to confirm if he required surgery," said Cassandra Beaverho, mother of the boy.

"I'm so relieved to say it is not needed."

Beaverho provided hercommentsto CBConFacebook. She said her son's liver injury was the most serious of theinjuries he sustained from the accident.

"He is to stay at home for six weeks to recover from a trauma we will never forget," Beaverho said.

"I also would love to say mahsi cho (thank you) to all that arepraying for my boy. He is one tough cookie."

RCMPareinvestigating the incident.
