'Large amount' of alcohol, drugs seized in 3 N.W.T. communities

RCMP in three Northwest Territories communities seized "large amounts" of alcohol and illegal drugs last weekend.

During a traffic stop on Friday, Norman Wells RCMP discovered 70 bottles of vodka, 60 cans of beer, 42 bottles of rum, three bottles of whisky and two bottles of wine in a vehicle.

The alcohol was "destined for resale in the community of Colville Lake," police said in a press release.

All the alcohol was seized and three people in the vehicle were charged under the Liquor Act.

On Saturday, Deline RCMP conducted a traffic stop and found 170 grams of marijuana inside the vehicle.

The driver was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and other infractionsunder the Motor Vehicle Act.

Fort Good Hope RCMP received a call for assistance on Sunday, regarding a vehicle that had veered off the road and was stuck in the snow.

When they arrived, the officers determined that two of the four people in the car were "under the influence of alcohol."

Police also found 41 bottles of vodka and 19 cans of beer, "all destined for the community of Colville Lake."

Both people were arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
