Families seek closure in disappearance of Ft. Simpson men

The families of two Fort Simpson men who disappeared in mid-June while repairing a friend's cabin visited the remote site on Tuesday, hoping for clues and closure in the mysterious case.

David Horesay's body was found in the dense bush near the North Nahanni River last week.

Frederick Hardisty is still missing.

"There's some sorrow and there's also a little bit of relief as to what kind of country that they've gone to," says Jonas Antoine, a friend of the families.

Antoine says the two men were close friends and seasoned outdoorsmen, and they knew the area well.

Police don't know what happened to the men, but say they don't suspect foul play.

"We're still optimistic that we're going to find Mr. Hardisty," says Fort Simpson RCMP Corporal, Jim Sheppard. "It's really rough country, we were having the helicopter fly the river and hopefully we'll be successful."

On Monday, the RCMP also brought in a police dog from Alberta to aid in the search.

Antoine says members of Hardisty's family are vowing to stay in the bush until they find him.

He says they're also appealing to the community for more money and more volunteers to continue the search.
