Igloo church re-opens in Iqaluit after fire

In 2005, a fire devastated the church, which was one of Nunavut's most recognizable landmarks. Sunday, about 400 people packed in to hear the restored church's first service.

In 2005, a fire devastated the church, which was one of Nunavut's most recognizable landmarks.

About 400 people dressed in their Sunday best packed in to hear the restored church's first service on Sunday.

While thechurch isthe same igloo shape as before, ithas some new features. There is brand-new light wood pews from the U.S., a narwhal tusk hangs above the pulpit and there are fire-proof materials installed every few feet on the walls.

The service was in both English and Inuktitut. The service was a celebration of the church, as well as an introduction to the new Inuktitut-language bible.
