A group of about 20 walkers participating inthe Innu Meshkenu walk havearrived in Kuujjuaq, Que., about a month after leaving the Innu village of Matimukush, near Schefferville.

The 550-kilometre walk took 26 days. Walkers included Naskapi, Innu and Inuit.

Innu doctor Stanley Vollant has organized a series of these walks over the last fiveyears. He uses the InnuMeshkenu (InnuTrail)program to inspire young people to learn about their history and develop healthy lifestyles.

Vollant said the walk to Kuujjuaq has been the coldest and most gruelling for him so farbut he addedhe wants the walk to continue further north to other Inuit communities next time.

Vollant is now visiting Kuujjuaq schools to talk about the importance of keeping culture and identity thriving.
