Iqaluit airport fire under investigation as work resumes

Construction crews are back working on Iqaluit's new airport terminal as investigators continue to try tofigure out what caused a roof fire Saturday night.

Nunavut's Office of the Fire Marshal and the Iqaluit Fire Department spent Tuesday investigating how the fire started but have yet to determine a cause.

"It is not clear if this fire will have any effect on the schedule for completion of the Iqaluit International Airport Improvement Project," reada press release by the territory's Department of Economic Development and Transportation.

The construction of the new terminal is part of a $300 millionrenovationof the airport, scheduledtobecompleted by the end of 2017.

"An engineering investigation by the design builder is necessary beforehand to determine the extent of fire and waterdamage. However, the fire is not expected to have any effect on the cost of the project for the Government of Nunavut."
