Iqaluit Creekside Village standoff ends with no injuries

A 27-year old man is inRCMPcustody following a 12-hour standoff inIqaluit'sCreeksideVillage neighbourhood.

It's not clear yet whether the man will face charges. There were no injuries reported.

It was the community's second standoff in the span of a week. Police havenot said whether a firearm was in the Creekside Village unit.

Policeblocked off part of sector, commonly known as White Row,after receiving reports of a man barricaded inside an unit.Iqaluitmunicipal enforcement set up roadblocksat the intersection across from the Arctic Ventures Marketplace, and down the street from the Anglican Parish Hall.Police were seen outsideCreeksideVillagewith their weapons drawn.

The apartment complexwas also being used to house displaced Arctic College students after a fire in theIkkuvikresidence last week.

This is the second standoff inIqaluitin a week.The first one,in the city's Happy Valley neighbourhood, ended without injuryon Thursdayafter 42 hours.Several area residents were unable to get home during that incident, others had to stay in their homes for two days and the city set up an emergency shelter at the Arctic Winter Games arena.
