Iqaluit police looking for man in assault near school

RCMP in Iqaluit are looking for a man in connection with a sexual assault that sent a woman tohospital with multiple injuries.

In a release Tuesday, police said the man, who was dressed entirely in black, assaulted a woman outside Inukshuk High School around 8:45 p.m. Monday.

A witness later chased the man away and contacted police.

RCMP say the man was last seen running down toward the city's Green Row residential area.

The woman remains in hospital Tuesday. Police would only say she suffered "multiple injuries" during the assault.

Officers were at the scene Tuesday morning to search for the man. In the meantime, they are asking anyone with information about the incident to call RCMP at (867) 979-1111 or the anonymous tips line at 1-800-222-8477.
