Italy's Enrico Ghidoni wins Yukon Arctic Ultra by mountain bike

Enrico Ghidoni, 61, was the first person to cross the finish line in Dawson City just before 5 p.m. PT Sunday, after leaving Whitehorse a week earlier.

EnricoGhidoni from Bovegno, Italy, has won the 430 mileevent of the Yukon Arctic Ultra on a mountain bike.

Ghidoni, 61, was the first person to crossthe finish line in Dawson City at 3:45 p.m. PT Sunday. He rode from Whitehorse to Dawson City in seven days, five hours and 15 minutes.

Ghidoni is no stranger to the race. In 2009, he was the first person to win the 692 kmevent on foot, and in 2013, Ghidoni was the first athlete to complete the distance on skis.

Yukoner Derek Crowe came in second, arriving at Dawson City on his mountain bike just 1:19a.m. Monday.

The only other Yukoner still in the race is Jessie Thomson-Gladishwho is on foot.At last word, she was about 80 km from Scroggie Creek, the final check point before Dawson City.
