Whitehorse's Mount McIntyre ski trails damaged by trucks

Whitehorse RCMP say they're investigating after people drove trucks on Mount McIntyre, damaging severalpopular cross-country ski trails.

The Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club reported the damage Wednesday morning. The club says the Copper,Dog and World Cup 10K trails were all damaged by tire ruts.

Isabel Beauregard was skiing at around9 p.m. on Tuesday evening when she saw headlights.

"Atfirst, I thought it was a groomer," Beauregard said.

It was actually a truck. The vehiclemoved to the side of the trails to let Beauregardpass. She skied on, but deep ruts in the snow made it difficult.

Then she came upon a second truck.

"It was just a bit scary, because I was wondering about other people on the trail.It could be a bit dangerous," she said.

Beauregard did not get a good look at the people in the trucksand isn't sure what kind of vehicles they were driving, but thinks they looked similar to a Land Cruiser.

The ski clubsays the Copper and Dog trails have now been repaired, but the World Cup 10K trail is still closed. It's being repaired, but the club's website says it will be in poor shape until more snow falls.

The club is asking anybody who may have seen the vehicles and noted the licence plate numbers to contact the Ski Base at Mount McIntyre.
