The official in charge of human resources in the Northwest Territories government has been let go, in a move she says was made by Premier Floyd Roland.

The official in charge of human resources in the Northwest Territories government has been let go, in a move she says was made by Premier Floyd Roland.

Lynn Elkin, whose last day as deputy human resources minister was Friday, told CBC News on Monday that her departure was Roland's decision.

Elkin had been with the territorial government for 17 years, becoming deputy human resources minister when the department was founded in 2006.

The Human Resources Department was tasked with centralizing personnel services previously carried out within each government department.

But the young department faced growing pains, including glitches last year with its main computer system for personnel.

A spokeswoman for Rolandsaid a director, Sharilyn Alexander, would assumeElkin's positionuntil a permanent appointment is made.
