NDP leader Tom Mulcair will visit Iqaluit on campaign trail

NDP leader Tom Mulcair will be visiting Iqaluit on Tuesday. His last visit to Iqaluit was in September 2014.

Liberal leader Justin Trudeau is also scheduled to visit

NDP leader Tom Mulcair will be visiting Iqaluit on his campaign trail. He'll be in the Nunavut capitalon Tuesday and Wednesday.

"We're very excited that Mulcair is coming," says NDP supporter Chris Callahan.

"I feel great," says Jack Anawak, Nunavut'sNDP candidate."I think that it shows that he cares about the North and is very interested in what Northerners have to say."

Mulcair was in Iqaluit last September, where he spoke to Nunavimmiut about the need for a port,high-speed internet and taking action on missing and murdered aboriginal women.

"Leaders have to be accessible to the people that they represent," saysAnawak.

Anawak says Mulcair's visit will be different from Stephen Harper's visit to Iqaluit in Augustbecause it will be an open door event.

"On Tuesday night there will be a feast at Nakasuk School and all people will be invited," says Anawak. "Anybody who wants to come to the feast will be allowed."

The NDP hassaid it will be releasing a strategy plan for the North in the near future. It will outline how the party hopes to address many of the key issues in Nunavut.

"I think he'll be unveiling something Wednesday," says Anawak.

The Liberals' Justin Trudeau has also announcedhe will be visitingIqaluit during the election campaign.The date for his visit is not yet confirmed.
