Nunavut cabinet shuffle gives Family Services portfolio to George Kuksuk

Premier Peter Taptuna has shuffled his cabinet and assigned new portfolios to the territory's two newest cabinet ministers.

Nunavut Premier Peter Taptuna has shuffled his cabinet and assigned portfolios to the territory's two newest cabinet ministers.

"We are entering a new chapter of this government, and there is still more work required to ensure we achieve what we set out to do," statedTaptuna in a media release.

Iqaluit-Tasiluk MLA George Hickes and Arviat South MLA Joe Savikataaq were sworn into cabinet this morning.

Hickes is now the minister responsible for theQulliq Energy Corporation and the minister responsible for the Nunavut Housing Corporation.

Savikataaq is now ministerof Community and Government Services and will be the Nunavutchair at the Hudson Bay Neighbours RegionalRoundtable,which is aimed at increasing partnerships betweenManitoba and the Kivalliq region.

Hickes and Savikataaq were voted into cabinet on Mondayevening following the resignation of Jeannie Ugyuk as Family Services Minister and Netsilik MLA.
