Feds, N.W.T. appoint special reps for Akaitcho, Dehcho negotiations

The federal and N.W.T. governments have appointed a ministerial special representative to try and advance treaty and self-government negotiations with the Akaitcho Dene First Nations and the Northwest Territory Mtis Nation and land claim negotiations with the Dehcho First Nations.

Thomas Isaac tasked to help resolve outstanding negotiations and overlapping interests

The federal and N.W.T. governments have appointed a ministerial special representative to try and advance treaty and self-governmentnegotiations with the AkaitchoDene First Nations and the Northwest Territory Mtis Nation.

Indigenous andNorthern Affairs MinisterCarolyn Bennett and N.W.T. Premier Bob McLeodannouncedTuesday thatThomas Isaac had been appointedto help resolve theoutstanding negotiationsand overlapping interests.

In a meeting on Monday with McLeod and the Dehcho First Nations, Bennett also announced the appointment of Anne Marie Doyle as the ministerial special representative to the land claim negotiations with the Dehcho First Nations.

Their tasks?To sit down with each aboriginal group,talk about their views and relay those views to McLeod andBennett.

The two are expected to report back to the minister and premier in December 2016.
