Who's running in the 2015 N.W.T. election?

Nominations have officially closed for candidates in the Nov. 23 Northwest Territories election, with 60people having filed to run for the 19 seats in the legislature.

This year's slate will boast 13more candidates than the 47 people who ran for territorial office in 2011, and three more female candidates than the last election.

Two people have announced they'll run against Premier Bob McLeod in the Yellowknife South district. In 2011, McLeod ran unopposed, was acclaimed and later chosen by MLAs (in a traditionally hush-hush process) as premier.

Michael Nadli's candidacy a nail-biter

Elections NWT has confirmed that incumbent Education minister Jackson Laffertyhas been acclaimed in the Monfwi electoral district,which comprisescommunities in theTlichoregion.

The candidacy of incumbent Deh Cho MLA Michael Nadli who is at the centre of a debate about whether he should seek office again in the wake of his being released early from jail while serving a sentence for assault was confirmed by Elections NWTmere minutes before the 2 p.m. deadline.

All but three MLAs from the last assembly (Wendy Bisaro, Bob Bromley and Norman Yakeleya) are seeking re-election. Sahtu MLA Yakeleya dropped out of the race last week for health reasons.
