Occupy Canada movement reaches North

The Occupy Wall Street movement,which sprung up in cities around Canada this weekend, reached one of the countrys most remote areas.

A couple dozen protesters went to the site of an existing tent city in Whitehorse, Yukon, to protest corporate greed and social and economic inequality.

They brought food to those who have been camping out on the lawn of the territorys legislature since June. The campers are protesting Yukons lack of affordable housing.

A Whitehorse man now plans to continue the North's Occupy movement this week by joining those who are camped out.

Mark Bowers will roll his camper onto the legislatures lawn for an indefinite stay.

Bowers explains why he will continue the protest at tent city.

"It seems to be a natural fit almost. The folks that have been kept out at tent city have been there all summer," said Bowers. "Part of the issue and the biggest issue for me in wanting to, and feeling a need to participate in the movement, is to highlight the inequalities between the one per cent and the 99 per cent," said Bowers.

He is referring to the movements claim that the richest one per cent is benefiting at the expense of the rest of the population.

Bowers says the Occupy movement isnt going away because the number of people protesting around the globe is growing.
