Old Crow, Yukon, winter road cancelled

Vuntut Gwitchin chief Joe Linklater says the snow won't be deep enough to build a proper winter road to the community this year.

Plans to build a winter road to Old Crow, Yukon, this winter have been cancelled.

Vuntut Gwitchin chief Joe Linklater said the snow won't be deep enough to build a proper road.

Linklater said the road is needed to bring supplies in for various projects.

"We want to build a new store, we're working on a foundation for a multiplex recreation-type centre, and additional housing," he said.

Linklater said he is unsure if the planned projects will go ahead, now that a decision has been made not to build a winter road this year.

Old Crow is the only community in Yukon without road access.
