Pangnirtung remains on 4-hour power rotations

More than 48 hours after a fire at the local power plant cut off power to residents of Pangnirtung, Nunavut, power services continueto be rotated to different sections of the hamlet on regular four-hour intervals

In an update issued Saturday morning, the Government of Nunavut saidthe local state of emergency will remain in place until power is restored to the entire community. The government also advised residents to continue to preserve power for basic necessities.

Additional equipment to help with restoring full power arrived in the community on Saturday morning, the government added.

"Technicians are in Pangnirtung and are working to restore additional services to the community, including phone service and internet," the government said.

With stores in the hamlet open daily from 1 to5 p.m., the government also reminded residents to carefully check the expiry dates of perishable foods.

Health-care workers will be checking in on elders and persons requiring assistance.
