Pond Inlet woman's death suspicious: RCMP

RCMP investigators are flying to Pond Inlet, Nunavut, to probe what police say is a suspicious death in the community.

RCMP investigators are flying to Pond Inlet, Nunavut, to probe what police say is a suspicious death in the community.

RCMP in the Baffin Island community say they found an unresponsive 31-year-old woman at a local residence around 2:30 a.m. ET Thursday.

The woman was taken to the Pond Inlet Health Centre, where she was pronounced dead.

RCMP didn't release the woman's name, but they said in a release her death is being treated as suspicious.

A 31-year-old man has been taken into custody, but police wouldn't say whether he is considered to be a suspect.

Members of the Nunavut RCMP's major crimes unit and identification services unit were travelling from Iqaluit to Pond Inlet on Thursdayto help local officers with the investigation, according to the release.

Pond Inlet, with a population of over 1,300, is located near the northern tip of Baffin Island in eastern Nunavut.
