Some Yukon high school graduates got to look in Cinderella's Closet for that perfect prom dress this year.

Cinderella's Closet is a program run by social justice club members at Vanier Catholic Secondary School in Whitehorse that helps make graddress shopping more affordable.

"Some girls may not go to prom because they're worried about what they're going to wear," says organizer Janet Clarke, a librarian at the school.

She says this programs helps change that. "They can go in one of these dresses and feel excellent about their academic achievements and about how great they look."

Clarke says the gowns cost anywhere from nothing to $100, based on how much the student can pay.

Hannah Pater, a grade 11 student, says helping friends choose their grad gowns can be very memorable, which is why she was volunteering to help sell the dresses at an event on Wednesday night.

"This way (everyone) can come and they can feel great about what they're wearing," she said.

About 50 gowns were donated to the program. Clarke says the money from the sale of these gowns will be given to male students who need help renting tuxedos.
