Ross River, Yukon, school closed due to cracks in walls

The school will remain closed Monday as structural engineers assess the building.

Structural engineers assessing building this weekend

The school in Ross River, Yukon, was closed on Friday after staff noticed large cracks in the walls. The Department of Education says the school will remain closed on Monday while the building is assessed by engineers.

Staff and students were sent home on Friday from the school in Ross River, Yukon,after staff noticed large cracks in the walls.

Approximately 50 students from kindergarten to Grade 12 attend the school.

The Yukon Department of Education says structural engineers are assessing the schoolthis weekend.

The department says it will not reopen the facility until it passes an assessment.The school will remain closed Monday.

The precautionary decisionwas made following advice from the Department of Highways and Public Works. Engineers were scheduled to examine the building Saturday morning and report back on building safety.

The Department of Education says it will provide more information as it becomes available.
