Stephen Harper to attend Inuvik to Tuk highway ceremony

Stephen Harpers office has confirmed the prime minister will attend a ceremony to mark the beginning of construction of the Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway on Wednesday.

Stephen Harpers office has confirmed the prime minister will attend aceremony to mark the beginning of construction of theInuviktoTuktoyaktukHighway on Wednesday.

N.W.T. Premier Bob McLeod, along with a number of cabinet ministers, will also be in Inuvik for the event.

The event will mark the start of the four-year construction of the highly anticipated all-weather road to the Arctic Coast.

It starts at noon at the Midnight Sun Recreation Complex.

The plan is for a photo opportunity with the people working on the highway project.That willhappen on the edge of Navy Road where construction on the all-weather road will begin in the coming weeks.

Harper is not staying in the North long.It's expected he'll leaveInuvikin the afternoon.

There will also be a second event in Inuvik Wednesday.The N.W.T. premier and cabinet ministers will cut the ribbon at Inuvik's new liquefied natural gas facility.
