Joyride in stolen vehicle ends with rollover

A vehicle stolen this week from Whitehorse's Ingram neighbourhood has been recovered by police a little worse for wear.

RCMPsay the Nissan Pathfinder was involved in a single-vehicle rollover at about 2 a.m. onThursday,in the Whistle Bend neighbourhood.It had been reported stolen less than a day earlier.

The accident happened at the intersection of Casca Boulevard and AksalaDrive.

It's not known whether anybody was hurt in the accident. RCMP say a witness reported seeing four people running from the wreckage.

RCMP are doing a forensic analysis ofthe vehicle.

Police say afew hours after the accident, asecond vehicle was reportedstolen in Whistle Bend. It was found about half an hour later in downtown Whitehorse.

Both thefts are still under investigation. RCMP Inspector Archie Thompson says, in a news release, that car theft happens too often in Whitehorse.

"We are examining the underlying factors behind these crimes of opportunity," Thompson said.
