Whitehorse airport parking lot patrols start Monday: Yukon Government

The parking lot at the Whitehorse airport will be patrolled by security guards starting Monday, says the Yukon Government.

The move follows a weekend break-in, in which at least a dozen vehicles were damaged. It was the second such incident in just over a month. In August, 20 vehicles were vandalized in the same area.

Scott Kent, Yukon's minister of public works, says security cameras are also in the works.

"What's happening right now is we are finalizing costs and a plan to install those cameras and we are implementing parking lot patrols by Yukon Government security at four per night starting this evening," says Kent.

He says staff have been pricing the cost of the extra security since the vandalism incident last month, but can't say how long it will take to order and install the new cameras.
