Whitehorse Home Hardware worker dies in hospital

A Whitehorse man is dead after an apparent workplace accident at Home Hardware late last week.

Gary Martinwas found unconscious in a backroom at the store on Thursday morning. Martin was medevaced to Vancouverbut died the next day.

The Yukon Workers' Compensation Health and Safety Board is investigating. Spokesperson Kurt Dieckmann says a fallen ladder was found nearby but he says it will be difficult to know exactly what happened, because there were no witnesses.

Dieckmann says the board is waiting for more information about the exact cause of death.

The manager of the Whitehorse Home Hardware issued a statement. Rob Champagne calls Martin a friend and valued colleague."Our grief and confusion at this timeare little compared to what Gary's family must be feeling," the statement says.
