Bail hearing pushed back for Yukon man accused of mailing bomb to brother in B.C.

A Whitehorse man accused of mailing a bomb to his brother on Vancouver Island will remain in custody until at least Thursday, after Monday's bail hearing was adjourned.

Police say more time is needed to determine charges

A Whitehorse man accused ofmailing a bomb to his brother on Vancouver Island will remain in custody until at least Thursday, after Monday's bail hearing was adjourned.

Leon Nepper, 73, is charged with sending an explosive device with intent to cause bodily harm and with illegally possessing an explosive device.

The device was mailed to Roger Nepper in Port Alice, B.C.

In Yukon Territorial Court on Monday, Nepperappeared extremely frail. He walked slowly to the prisoner's box, hunched and grasping onto the door frame to help himself move. He held his head in his hand as he listened to the proceedings.

Judge Karen Ruddy agreed to adjourn thebail hearingafter the Crown prosecutor told the court that police need more time to determine if they will bring additional charges.

The device exploded when Roger Nepperopened it at his home last Tuesday. Hisstep-daughter told CBCthatthree of Nepper's fingers had to be amputated because of the blast.

She also said nails from the bomb were removed from hisstomach, and her mother, Shirley Bowick, was also burned in the incident. Roger Nepper remains in hospital in stable condition.

Leon Nepperwill remain in custody until his next court appearance, scheduled for Thursday.
