French school, daycare, closed in Whitehorse due to gas leak

Officials with cole milie-Tremblay and the Garderie du petit cheval blanc smelled propane early Thursday morning. Parents were told to come pick up their kids.

School officials noticed smell of propane early Thursday morning; no injuries reported

Whitehorse'scole milie-Tremblayschooland the adjoining Garderie du petit cheval blancdaycarewereclosed Thursday morning after officials detected apropane leak in the building.

Officials called the fire department, andemailed parents around 8 a.m. asking them not to drop off their children at the school and daycare on Falcon Drive in Logan.

There are no reports of injuries.

"We have been working in coordination with the fire department to investigate the smell," said Kyle Nightingale, with Yukon's education department.

"Students were kept on buses at safe locations outside the school as instructed by the fire department, while they were being supervised by staff."

Nightingale says the incident is still being investigated.

The school and daycare areclosed all day.

The Whitehorse Fire Department had left the scene by around 11 a.m.
