Whitehorse RCMP respond to rash of vehicle thefts

RCMPin Whitehorse have a simple message, after a rash of vehicle thefts in the city lock your car.

Police received reports of four stolen vehicles over the weekend. In three of thosecasesthe owner had left the vehicle unlocked, with the keys inside.

Three of thevehicles have since been recovered, including Mark Penner's truck. He was stayingovernight at a friend's house in the Crestview neighbourhood and woke to find his truck gone.

"I contacted the RCMP, and about four or fivehours later, they had found my vehicle in Granger [subdivision]."

Penner's vehicle wasn't damaged, and only a few things inside were missing.

Police are still looking for the fourth stolen vehicle, a grey 2007 Buick sedanwith a Yukon plate (HHN76).

They're also looking for suspects. So far, no one has been arrested.

"We have descriptions of people that were seen leaving one of the vehicles, and we are following up on that," said RCMP Sgt. Dave Wallace.
