The City of Yellowknife is launching a weekly summer series tonight in which food vendors take over an underutilized lot in the city's downtown core.

The city says nine food vendors are involved and six will be on hand tonight to serve up grub at the inaugural Food on Franklin event,at the corner of 50 Street and 50 Avenue.

"As long as proper permitting is done through the [N.W.T.] Department of Health...then we are open to everybody being included in this event," said Richard McIntosh, an economic development officer with the city.

The 5 p.m. event, offered in partnership with the Yellowknife Artist Run Community Centre and the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce, will also feature live music and an artist workshop each week.

The series is intended to run until the end of August.
