Members of theYellowknife Ski Club will vote next week on a motion to supporta bid to hostthe 2023 Canada Winter Games.

If the motion passes, club president John Stephenson says the group would then address Yellowknife City Council.

Stephenson says hosting the games would mean improvements to its facilities andtrails, and also help foster young athletes.

"These games always have a springboard effect on youth and on other athletes watching the games, participating in the trials that lead up to the games, and in participating inthe many events that will follow the games," he said.

City council will decide in the next few weeks if it will make a bid for Yellowknife to host the games.

The Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce has told city councillorsYellowknifeshouldn't host the games, citing concerns aboutan increase in taxes as well asthe city's capacity to host the games.
