Trains to Iqaluit? Northerners poke fun at gov't Twitter account after gaffe

An ill-conceivedtweet from a federal government Twitter account has provoked lighthearted disbelief from residents of Canada's North, many of whom are looking for an answer to a simple question: what train?

On Monday morning, the account @Canada, a verified Twitter account run by Global Affairs Canada, tweeted a series of images modelled after the popular "choose your own adventure" stories. The tweets outlined scenarios highlighting locations across the country, giving readers the option to make their choice through a retweet or a favourite.

One of these tweets, focused on Iqaluit, posed the scenario of a reader taking the wrong train, andarriving in a snowstorm in Nunavut's capital city.

However, as Iqaluit mayor Madeline Redfern wasquick to point out, the scenario had a fundamental problem: there are no trains to Iqaluit, which is on Baffin Island.

Other tweeters quickly jumped on the gaffe, offering their own light-heartedresponses to the mistake:

While some residents took a more aspirational approach, hoping the tweet pointed to a future addition to Canada's rail network:

Global Affairs Canada has yet to respond to a request for comment, though, as one commenter noted, it's not the first impossible scenario dreamed up by the "choose your own adventure" series of tweets.
