38 take citizenship oath on Canada Day in Halifax

It was a Canada Day to remember for 38 new citizens in Halifax on Wednesday.

38 people from 15 different countries took their oath

It was a Canada Day to remember for 38 new citizens in Halifax on Wednesday.

They all took their oath of citizenship in the annual Canada day ceremony at theCanadian Immigration Museum atPier 21.

This year's ceremony included people from 15 different countries, including Syria whereLinaCharvajiand her family are from.

"It feels great especiallywhenthere is some placeelse which is safe for the family, for the children. With all the situation happening in Syria now I'm happy to be here," she said.

For most, the ceremony follows years of waiting.

"I'm feeling very honoured and very proud to call myself Canadian. It's been six years trying to get here,"saidJocelyn McKay of Ireland.She and her nine-year-old daughter both took the oath.

"We just love it here."

The citizenship ceremony is the final step immigrants take to becomingCanadian citizens.
