4 fishermen rescued from life raft off Sable Island

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre with assistance from a fishing vessel has rescued four people from a life raft about 70 nautical miles east of Sable Island.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre with assistance from a fishing vessel hasrescued four people from a life raft about 70 nautical miles east of Sable Island.

Capt. Peter Ryan, with JRCC, said the call for help came in around 4 a.m. Sunday.

The four crew of the F.V. Gentle Lady climbed into a life raft after running into trouble off the coast of Nova Scotia, said Ryan.

JRCC coordinated the rescue with another nearby fishing vessel, the Ocean Concord.

The rescued crew are all safe. After being picked up by the Ocean Concord, the crew was transferred toCanadian Coast Guard vessel, CCGSSpindriftSunday afternoon.

The rescue centre were about to send a Cormorant helicopter and a Hercules aircraft out to the site but those were cancelled, thanks to help from the Ocean Concord.
