Boston terrier returned safely to Cole Harbour owners after break-in

A Cole Harbour, N.S., family is breathing a sigh of relief now that their three-year-old Boston terrier, who went missing after their home was broken into, has been returned in good health.

A Cole Harbour, N.S., family is breathing a sigh of relief now that theirthree-year-old Boston terrierwho went missing after their home was broken into earlier this weekhas been returned in good health.

Megan Hadleysaid it was a long Fridaynight and early Saturday morning driving to Truro, nearly 100 kilometres away, topick up their dog Homer from Colchester Animal Services, where RCMP officers had dropped off the dog.

Hadleysaid Homerwas at first "very frightened."

"He was very uneasy around the cops and stuff, I would assume maybe the uniforms," she said. "But when he was with her [animal services official] he started to come around a bit. Then when he got home he was very happy.

"All he wanted to do was play with his toys."

Youths in custody

Police said they received a complaint about a suspicious vehicle around11:40p.m. Friday. Officers stopped the vehicle travelling northbound on Highway 102 nearBrookfield and found Homer inside.

RCMP said the vehicle was stolen from the Kentville area. Two youths were arrested at the scene and remain in police custody while police continue to investigate.

'We are so happy'

Hadley had returned home from visiting her sister-in-law's on Tuesday to find possessions belonging to her and her husband Matt Hadley in disarray. When police arrived, RCMPtreated the case as a break-and-enter.

Makeup, a flat iron and some pieces of jewelry couldn't be found.The basement window had been smashed with a firebrick.Homer, whose favourite spot is on a basement couch, was gone.

"We are so happy. We're just relieved he's home safe and sound," Hadley told CBC News on Saturday. "We thought he might be nervous of the basement, but he wanted to go down there."

The Hadleyssaid they wish to thank the RCMP and Colchester Animal Services for helping ensure Homer's safe return.
