Bouncer charged after patron punched in face

A bouncer at a Halifax bar has been charged with aggravated assault while the man he's accused of punching in the face remains in hospital in serious condition.

A bouncer at a Halifax bar has been charged with aggravated assault while the man he's accused of punching remains in hospital in serious condition.

Officers were called to Cheers on Grafton Street just after 1 a.m. Thursday.

Police saida46-year-oldman who had been in the bar was punched in the face and knocked to the groundoutside the bar duringthe altercation.

The man hit his head on the street and was taken to hospital with what police describe as life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested Jarrett Simmons, 19,at the scene andlater chargedhim with aggravated assault.

He was scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court Thursday afternoon.

Police are hoping to talk with more witnesses.

"There was a long lineup, apparently,in front ofthe establishment when the incident occurred, so there are likely a number of witnesses who we haven't spoken to yet," said Const. Jeff Carr.

Police have been given copies oftapes fromsecurity cameras trained on the door and sidewalk.
