CBC Nova Scotia's Do Crew helps raise money for homeless youth

The 2016 Coldest Night of the Year event took place across Canada on Saturday. In Halifax,the hearty CBC Nova Scotia Do Crew served as route marshals for the event, which raises money forArk, a drop-in centre for homeless youth.

The highly organized eventbegan with an orientation session for route marshals.We were given tuques, safety vests and signs, and then sent out to our posts tohelp direct 300 walkers along a specific route.

The eventattracts many volunteers and walkers who keep coming back every year to take part.

The walkers, who raised $65,000, ranged in age from 7 to 77, and were a happy bunch. It beganto rain near the end of the walk, but everyone was dressed for the weather and in good spirits.

All the volunteers and walkers were fed delicious soup made by local restaurants as we warmed up afterwardsat St. Andrew's Church, where the atmosphere was warm and friendly.

You all had great humour and were up for the challenge of standing outside for a couple of hours to help walkers along.
