There aren't many women curling in Canada more well-known than Halifax's Colleen Jones.

She's the successful skip whose team won two world championships and the Tournament of Hearts six times. Jones has also appeared in a record 21 Canadian Championships.

After an official ceremony on Nov. 1, she'll have another title member of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame.

In honour of her joining the hall of fame, here'sfivethings you may not know aboutthe curling superstar and her drive to win:

Figurine sums up attitude

"My son Zak gave me this little figurine way back in the late nineties and on the bottom it says victory belongs to the most persevering and I think Napoleon said it or somebody like that. I think that was my best characteristic or trait, I was very persevering, very determined. When I decide I'm going to do something I kind of keep plowing through it."

Considered her drive to win a curse

"While I often looked at that drive as sort of a curse, it's also a blessing when you're that driven, when you don't let the slightest obstacle get in your way and that you're very determined."

Dreamed of being Number 1early on

"It was sort of a goal, an intention I set with myself very young, when I started, after competing in the Canada Winter Games. I knew I want to be great at this.

"I enjoyed the process of working out of throwing rocks,of playing games, of being involved in the sport.I did like that journey and I think I was left with that kind of determination and blessed with incredible teammates."

Lost for years

"There were a lot of years of not winning from 1982 to winning again in 1999. That's a long 17-year spread of losing. There was a lot of losing years there for sure, and I was raising kids, so for sure during that time, I was [questioning] do I need this in my life?

"I think at the end of the day it was such a passion that there was no question that, that's what I was going to do."

Gives it her all

"I think sort of everything you do you kind of don't want to do half-assed job at it. That kind of focus and discipline that I learned on the ice carries over.

"I do Gran Fondo bike rides, 100 kilometres, I go to the gym, I'm very determined. At work I bring that same sort of focus."

Jones has no plans to retire from curling and will compete at the world senior championship next year.
