Street lights near Bedford Bypass latest area targeted

Police in Halifax say they have investigated more than 100 complaints about the theft of copper wire so far this year.

The RCMP and the Halifax regional police force want the public to report any suspicious behaviour in a bid to stop the thefts.

Police say thieves recently stole wire from street lights near the Bedford Bypass, which cost about $20,000 to fix.

Thieves have also stolen wire from light poles at the Dartmouth Crossing shopping complex and near the Halifax airport.

RCMP say they have responded to more than 400 complaints about the theft of copper wire since October 2009 in Nova Scotia.
