N.S. reports 1 death, 59 new cases of COVID-19 over weekend

Nova Scotia now has 166 active cases of COVID-19.

New cases bring active caseload to 166

Nova Scotia reported one new death and 59new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend. With 61 recoveries, there are now 166 known active cases.

The death is that of a 70-year-old man in the eastern health zone. No other details were provided in the province's news release.

There are 10people in hospital with COVID-19, with none reported in intensive care.

Of the new cases, 44are in the central health zone, six are in northern zone, five are in eastern zone and four are in western zone.

As of Monday, 78.5per cent of Nova Scotians have been fully vaccinated.

The health authority's labs completes 2,186 tests on Oct. 29, 1,971 tests on Oct. 30 and 1,836 tests on Oct. 31.

Four schools reported COVID-19 exposures over the weekend.

In the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education,Boularderie Elementary School inBoularderie and the Dr. T.L. Sullivan School inFlorence reported exposures Sunday.

Also Sunday, the Halifax Regional Centre for Education reported exposures atSt. Stephen's Elementary inHalifax, and
Madeline Symonds Middle School in Hammonds Plains.

As with any positive case, Public Health will reach out to theclose contacts of the positive case and advise of next steps.

No extra health measures have been requiredin these cases.

Atlantic Canada case numbers

  • New Brunswickreported 31 new cases on Monday. The province has 506 known active casesand 24people hospitalized, including 16 in intensive care.
  • Newfoundland and Labradorreported two new cases on Monday. The province has 91active cases.
  • Prince Edward Islandreported two new cases Monday. There are four known active cases on the island.
