Frontier, TV series starring Game of Thrones star filming in Louisbourg

Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa has been creating a sensation in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia in the last week as the lead actor in Discovery Canada's upcoming six-part production, Frontier, its first original scripted series.

Game of Thrones star Jason Momoahas been creating a sensation in Newfoundland andNova Scotia in the last week as the lead actor in Discovery Canada's upcoming six-part production,Frontier, its first original scripted series.

The castalso includes Alun Armstrong, Landon Liboiron, Zoe Boyleand Allan Hawco.The show isbeing filmed mostly in Newfoundland, and will shoot for a few days inLouisbourg, N.S.

The showcentres on the sometimes bloody struggle for wealth and power in the North American fur trade of the late 18th century.

The executive producer isPeter Blackie of Take the Shot Productions, who's also aco-creator andwriter.

Much of theproduction Monday, took placeatthe Fortress ofLouisbourg.

CBC Cape Breton associate producer Rob Doublett was given access to the set, under strict conditions, including not being able to take pictures of the actors' faces.

He saw them getting ready to shoot what appeared to be a battle scene and estimated there were between 30 to 50 people on the site.

Doublett asked the production team how many locals are being used for Frontier, but did not get a number.

The series will debut next year in Canada on Bell Media platforms including Discovery, Discovery GO, and CraveTV, and on Netflix in international markets.
